At 1000 Folded Cranes, we treat a comprehensive range of women’s  health concerns including:

Menstruation

womens_health_cramping Menstruation is a natural process centered on a regular cycle of hormone levels. Though menstruation symptoms can differ amongst women, acupuncture can greatly reduce menstrual discomfort and irregularity.

Having specialization in women’s health, our patients have expressed significant improvement in the timing of their period, its duration, flow, and having restored lost energy. Only recently have medical studies revealed what we have known and practiced for years.

PMS

Acupuncture treatment, the process of accurately pinpointing the correct channels of the body for a specific condition, significantly reduces the intensity and duration of period pain, including bloating, headaches, and nausea. By addressing these conditions in a meaningful, medication-free way, our patients have indicated that we are improving their overall quality of life. Patients have also indicated that these improvements have lasted up to a year or more after their acupuncture treatment, proof that the brain and body accept and maintain the hormonal changes as a result of treatment.

Endometriosis

Through research, acupuncture has been proven to relieve pain due to endometriosis, finding acupuncture to be more effective than hormone drug therapy. Acupuncture relieves menstrual endometriosis pain, reduces the size of pelvic masses, lowers CA125 levels, and reduces the recurrence rate of endometriosis. In summary, acupuncture was almost twice as effective as patients who received mifepristone, a synthetic steroid that inhibits progesterone action and is used for terminating a pregnancy.

Fertility

Acupuncture increases fertility rates in several ways. Besides reducing stress and inducing deeper relaxation of the entire body, our specific treatments are designed to not only improve the chance of pregnancy but to also support staying pregnant, thus having a healthy baby. In addition to improved sleep and energy, acupuncture can provide improved blood flow to the ovaries and uterus, creating a stronger chance for an egg to be nourished and carried to term.

Uterine Fibroids

Fibroids are caused by obstructions in blood flow, and therefore, can be treated with acupuncture. Acupuncture treatment works to realign the delicate hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis, which controls the levels of estrogen and progesterone in the body. When estrogen levels are higher than normal, fibroids tend to become larger, causing pain and inhibiting implantation. Acupuncture, when delivered at the site of the fibroid, also reduces the spread of abnormal cells.

Peri/Menopausal symptoms

Acupuncture can balance menopausal hormones, having a direct impact on your symptoms, while reducing hot flashes, insomnia, and irritability. Menopause can occur at any age, which can heighten emotions. We will help you to understand the physical and emotional symptoms you are experiencing and develop a treatment program to reduce your specific concerns.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

Acupuncture is becoming a primary choice for women with PCOS who have endured medications and their side effects including malaise, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Acupuncture has also helped reduce headaches and improve mood and outlook. When treating PCOS with acupuncture, needles are placed along the meridians related to the reproductive system, helping to stimulate the organs, improve blood flow, normalize hormone levels and promote the proper functioning of the reproductive system.

Recurrent Yeast Infection

Acupuncture is becoming a primary choice for women with PCOS who have endured medications and their side effects including malaise, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Acupuncture has also helped reduce headaches and improve mood and outlook. When treating PCOS with acupuncture, needles are placed along the meridians related to the reproductive system, helping to stimulate the organs, improve blood flow, normalize hormone levels and promote the proper functioning of the reproductive system.

Pelvic Pain

With acupuncture, some women feel instant relief from pelvic pain. Recovery will depend on how often you can commit to a block of treatments and self-care recommendations. Acupuncture helps energy and blood to flow freely while activating the body’s innate healing ability. By releasing serotonin, endorphins, and enkephalins, which are pain-blocking hormones, acupuncture is excellent for treating pelvic and other pain.
